Services
Our professional services include:
- Small Dog Daycare for extra-small, tiny and miniature dogs.
Not all small dogs are the same - some don't even enjoy playing with other small dogs who have energetic play styles! This daycare is for these "special" small dogs.
Our guests enjoy a little bit of play but believe there's wisdom in moderation. The dogs in our care happily romp through the fully-fenced grassy yard but truly enjoy the luxury of a warm bed when they start to shiver from the cold.
Being born with short legs won't limit your fun here! Our space has been specially designed for the wee ones: toddler-sized comfy couches, colorful padded floors both for our joints and our traction (happy day! No slipping and sliding!) and the temperature is always a few degrees warmer to suit your constitutions.
A mid-day nap is always on our schedule - and does your little one enjoy sleeping buried under the blanket even in the sweltering heat of summer? Nothing surprises us here and we aim to please! Mood lighting dimmed low, soothing classical music and everyone snoozing soundly on little heated doggie beds - ah, the life.
In order to create such a peaceful, safe small-dog wonderland, we only accept 8 dogs maximum per day. Most importantly, only dogs which fit our requirements are eligible: toy/companion breeds/"lap dogs" (ex. Chihuahua, Maltese, Havanese, Shih Tzu, Miniature Poodle, etc.), 20 lbs and under, and displaying mild to moderate play styles.
- Small Dog Overnight Care: VERY limited. Toronto Small Dogs offers overnight care during most holidays (i.e. March Break, Christmas, statutory holidays and long weekends). Cage-free and worry-free, these special guests enjoy the luxury of playing in the daycare during the day and lounging in our cozy, warm house at night. Not only that, overnight guests always have the opportunity to sleep in the same room and share the bed with their human caregiver. Your precious dog will never sleep unattended. A small dog's idea of bliss!
Overnight care during non-holidays can sometimes be arranged. Please contact us for more information and possible availabilities.
How is Toronto Small Dogs different?
Many small dog owners have been searching for a daycare that suits their small dog. Most dog daycares in the city are designed to accomadate larger dogs. They may be located in an industrial building with high ceilings and have a gymnasium-type atmosphere. While this type of daycare may suit many dogs, it sometimes does not suit smaller, more fearful dogs.
Toronto Small Dogs is different because:
- We only accept small dogs with lower energy levels and play styles. While other daycares may have a special room for small dogs, some fearful dogs can still hear the energetic and loud barking from the large dog playroom and won't even enter the reception area! Toronto Small Dogs has been designed to accomadate this type of small dog by creating a soothing, quiet atmosphere for somewhat fearful dogs who are sensitive to loud noises.
- We have designed our entire indoor and outdoor areas with your small dog's safety as our first priority.
Outdoor:
Our privacy fence is over 6' high and has been built into the ground to ensure there are no tiny gaps where your 4lb Yorkie can escape. To discourage dogs who may like to dig under the fence, we have attached outdoor carpet to the base, making it virtually impossible to dig. Our daycare and playyard can only be accessed through one gate, which is locked at all times for security (we are not open to the public and do not accept visitors unless a visit has been pre-arranged). Surrounding our entry gate is a second fenced area, providing dual protection for your pet and ensuring they never have access to an open door.
Indoor: Our electrician has removed all existing electricial wiring and re-wired the entire space to waist-height. This ensures your little one will never come into contact with live outlets (especially the ones who like to pee on things!). The rubber mats covering the entire floor provides extra warmth, traction for little feet and joint protection during playtime. All toys and furniture are size-appropriate because we understand the dangers of small dogs who jump off of high furniture. For dogs with super-short legs who have trouble getting anywhere, we provide small doggie steps to assist them.
- personalized service is the ONLY service available at Toronto Small Dogs. The industry standard dicates that 1 staff person should supervise anywhere from 10 - 15 dogs. This means that 2 staff can supervise a large room of 30 dogs and these staff members could change every day. At Toronto Small Dogs, Nadia is the only staff person. You and your dog will always know what and who to expect. To ensure this atmosphere is always nurtured, Toronto Small Dogs will only accept a maximum of 8 dogs per day.
